Following your Decree Nisi having been granted, you will be able to finalise your divorce by applying for your Decree Absolute six weeks and one day from this date. As people are understandably keen to know when they will receive confirmation of the fact that their divorce has been finalised, we are regularly asked how long it will take the courts to issue a Decree Absolute following an application for one having been received.
Generally, we would state that confirmation of the divorce should have been received by both parties within a maximum of 14 days of the application for it to be made final having been sent to the court. If you have been waiting longer than this, then we would advise you to contact the court and query the delay. Don’t worry, the court will not have suddenly decided that you’re not eligible for a divorce (this particular hurdle was cleared when you were granted a Decree Nisi) and the delay will almost certainly be attributable to either a heavy workload or a clerical error.
